Container Project

It's official! Because of the overwhelming response we received to our requests, two containers will be leaving Canada in August headed for Mapaki. From Halifax we will be sending over 300 boxes with school and learning materials donated by schools, community groups, and individuals. This includes school supplies, carefully selected books, at least 30 bikes and spare parts, a solar-powered electrical system to provide light for Mapaki's students, agricultural tools, and many items to support re-establishment of women's projects that were destroyed during the war.

We are deeply and profoundly grateful for the support of so many individuals and organizations that have made this possible. Starting off with no infrastructure, staff, or budget to accomplish our goal, we have received donations of all materials well beyond our expectations, warehouse space, transportation, laborious packing, packing materials, financial donations, administrative support, and incredible moral and personal support. We sincerely thank you all from the bottom of our hearts....and invite you to the container send-off party/benefit on Sunday, September 9th at 8pm at Coconut Grove (corner of Blower's and Grafton) with Samba Nova and Kojo (all ages until 9pm, 19 and older after 9pm). Suggested door donation of $5. This will go towards the $4000 we still need to raise to ship and deliver the container. (If you are interested and able, you could also make a donation to the container costs or any aspect of our work in Sierra Leone through Peaceful Schools International, PO Box 660, Annapolis Royal, NS, B0S 1A0. Donations are tax-deductible and 100% of contributions go directly to the project).
